Definition

The Descendant is the degree of the zodiac setting over the western horizon at the exact moment of a birth, directly opposite the Ascendant. It marks the cusp of the seventh house and is one of the four classical angles of a natal chart. Traditional astrology associates it with encounter, with the other, and with the significant bonds that appear across a life.

An Ascendant in Aries places the Descendant in Libra: the way a person appears in the world carries the signature of Mars, yet they seek in the other the relational Venusian quality of the opposite sign.
