Fixed

Definition

Fixed is one of the three zodiac modalities, alongside cardinal and mutable. The fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) occupy the center of each season of the astrological year. The fixed quality is a sustaining one: it deepens, settles, and consolidates what the cardinal modality set in motion, giving time and form to whatever needs stability to reveal its inner nature.

In context

Someone with many planets in fixed signs usually has a notable strength for staying with their choices. They sustain long projects, deep-rooted habits, lasting bonds. The fixed modality grants consistency, yet letting go of what has already served its purpose can prove difficult. That flexibility belongs to the mutable signs. A chart with a strong fixed footprint benefits from leaning on the cardinal and mutable signs of the same map to avoid getting stuck in a structure that no longer serves it.

To go deeper

Fixed sits as the second modality inside the zodiac trio:

  • Cardinal: the modality that opens the cycle.
  • Mutable: the modality that closes the cycle.
  • Mode: the axis grouping the three modalities.
