The challenges in numerology

The challenges are the four lessons a life brings to be learned, and they run in parallel to the pinnacles. If the pinnacle describes the weather of each stage, the challenge names the stone in the road of that stretch: the concrete difficulty worth working on while it lasts. They are worked out by subtracting the reduced month, day and year from one another, which is why their range runs from zero to eight, with no master numbers.

Each figure points to a different task: learning to decide, to set limits, to speak up, to trust your own judgment. They are not punishments or curses, they are subjects to study. A challenge that repeats across a life is the sign that the deep work sits there.

Zero is a case of its own. It doesn't mean there is no challenge, but that you carry all of them at once and none in particular: no one sets the lesson from outside, it falls to you to set your own path. It is at once the freest and the most demanding, because it asks you to choose with no imposed direction. Whoever carries it doesn't lack a test; they carry the test of giving themselves their own shape.

Reading the challenges doesn't promise a life without stumbles. It tells you where the stone usually lies so you stop tripping over the same one.
