Chart ruler

Definition

The chart ruler is the planet that governs the sign sitting on the Ascendant. Once the Rising sign is known, the planet ruling that sign becomes the chart ruler, the planetary delegate of the whole nativity. Where this planet sits in the chart, what sign it occupies, what aspects it forms, and what house it belongs to all describe how the entire chart actually moves through the life.

In context

If your Ascendant falls in Capricorn, Saturn is your chart ruler. Wherever Saturn sits (its sign, its house, its closest aspects) adds a second layer to your Ascendant story. The chart ruler is the planet that organizes the rest of the natal chart around itself: every other reading takes on shape against the chart ruler's placement, so this single planet often functions as the chart's spine.
