Exaltation
Definition
Exaltation is the second classical essential dignity: the sign where a planet shines best without being in its own domicile. It is the position of an honored guest, not the planet's own home. The planet operates with extra reach and recognition, even though it plays on someone else's ground. Each traditional planet has an assigned exaltation sign distinct from its native rulership.
In context
The Sun is exalted in Aries, the Moon in Taurus, Jupiter in Cancer, Saturn in Libra. A Jupiter in Cancer describes a generosity that expresses itself through care and belonging. The planet is not in its own sign, yet the sign welcomes it with honor and lends it qualities that amplify its basic signature. Exaltation can also be read as borrowed brilliance: the planet depends on its host, and so the elevation comes with nuance.
