Domicile
Definition
A planet is in domicile when it sits in the sign it natively rules. In that position it operates on home ground, with every tool its symbolic nature calls for. Classical astrology treats domicile as the strongest essential dignity: the planet borrows nothing, translates its language into no other sign, and simply acts with clarity.
In context
The Sun is in domicile in Leo, Venus in Taurus and Libra, Mars in Aries and Scorpio, Saturn in Capricorn and Aquarius. A chart with Mars in Aries carries a Mars that speaks its mother tongue: it finds the gesture without effort, without hiding its combative signature behind another sign's style. The strength of domicile does not guarantee harmony with the rest of the chart, but it does guarantee unobstructed access to the planet's basic symbolic repertoire.
To go deeper
Domicile is read alongside the other planetary dignities:
- Ruler: the planet that governs the sign.
- Exaltation: the sign where a planet shines best.
- Detriment: the sign opposite the domicile.
