The karmic lesson in numerology
A karmic lesson is a gap. You find it by writing your full name in numbers and seeing which digits from one to nine never appear: each missing digit marks a capacity this life asks you to develop, precisely because it wasn't included. It is not a punishment or a debt, it is unfinished coursework, something others seem to have as standard equipment that you will have to learn by hand.
The word karmic frightens people more than it should. Here it doesn't mean sentence, it means task. If you lack the number that speaks of order, life will place you again and again in situations that demand order until you learn it. If the one that speaks of expression is missing, you will run into silence until you find your voice. The lesson repeats not to sink you, but because that is how you learn what you didn't arrive already carrying.
The use of naming your karmic lessons is to stop reading your stumbles as bad luck. The ground where you always slip isn't a curse, it's the classroom. The shadow would be giving up, deciding that it simply isn't your thing and dodging it for life. A dodged lesson doesn't vanish. It comes back, with the same question, until you answer it.
