Yod

Definition

A yod is a configuration of three planets where two of them sit in sextile to each other and both form a quincunx with a third planet, the apex. The figure looks like a long narrow triangle pointing at one planet. Some traditions call it the finger of god. The yod describes an unusual focal pressure: the apex carries an adjustment that the rest of the chart cannot resolve cleanly.

In context

If natal Venus and natal Mars sit in sextile and both form one hundred fifty degrees to natal Saturn, Saturn becomes the apex of a yod. The chart shows two friendly functions pointing at a third that does not share their language. The yod often reads as a vocation or task: the apex planet asks the life to negotiate a configuration that has no native shared idiom across its three voices.
